Behind the Scenes at the Framed Warehouse

I think of y’all as part of the Framed family. And since we recently made the Framed Warehouse the full-time home of my business, I wanted to invite you behind the scenes for a little tour.

I LOVE getting a peek behind the curtain to see how things work inside other people’s businesses. I bet many of you are the same way. You never know what you’ll find or who you’ll meet – and it’s just plain fun to discover the secrets, tricks, and magic that go into making it all work.

The truth is I’m proud to invite you into the Warehouse. I LOVE what I do and I adore the people I get to do it with. So come on in, make yourself at home, and let me show you around.

Who needs job descriptions?

There’s a running joke around the Warehouse when it comes to job descriptions – “What’s my job description today?”

We do so many different things around here that each member of the team has different jobs throughout the month. It keeps things from getting stale and keeps our energy up.

First things first.

Our first goal each morning is to pack and ship all the orders that came in through the website. This can take most of the morning, depending on how busy the previous day was in the online store.

We split duties and everyone gets to work. Some members of the team pick orders, some pack orders, and others work on monogramming.

There are also emails to answer, as well as returning phone and text messages. Everyone has their primary role at the warehouse and that’s where they start their day.

As orders are picked, they move to the personalization room or the shipping desk if they’re not being monogrammed. We focus on all new orders first so they are ready when the shipping carriers arrive around lunchtime.

Quotes from the team:

Lauren W. says, “I love the new warehouse and the amount of space we have. We are able to do multiple jobs at once and still have room for other things. I love having a job where I’m given a task, finish it, and move on to the next. And I like checking the boxes off whoever’s list needs to be finished to help them!”

Moving on to moving it in.

As soon as we finish working on orders that are going out, we start focusing on incoming shipments. As you can imagine, we get a LOT of stuff coming into the warehouse. All those t-shirts, sweatshirts, kimonos, earrings, cups, and all the things come in and it’s up to the team to get them ready to sell.

Each day, as shipments arrive, we unpack, count, and photograph each item before putting it into inventory on the Framed! website.

You can see some of the new items on our weekly Facebook Live, Friday Faves! I have so much fun showing up every Friday morning to show you all the fun new things that arrived during the week. The whole team gets involved in this process!

Quotes from the team:

Joey says, ”I love working at the Warehouse! First and foremost, it’s such a team environment. We support each other and help at every turn. It’s a place you’ll never be bored. There is always a new product, new design, or new process and that keeps things exciting!”

What about the subscriptions?

Once we’ve gotten all the new orders on their way to our customers and taken care of all the new merchandise that arrived, it’s time to work on subscription box tasks.

As you can imagine, it takes a LOT of prep work to curate, pack, and ship 3000 monthly subscriptions. We have to stay organized and ahead of shipping day each month.

We start by folding all the boxes, prepping packaging or products, folding thousands of tees, and organizing them by size. We know the more prep we do before packing day, the smoother it all goes.

Time with the team.

Have I mentioned how much I love my team?! I know I have, but it needs to be said again. They are a truly special group of women who work hard, laugh hard, and care about each other – and making Framed the best it can be.

Quotes from the team:

Lauren J. says, ”I am so incredibly lucky Sarah let me join her team. It is such a great women-filled environment and I love every minute of it. I have been friends with Sarah for years and watched her start her business. I’m so proud to play a small part in where she is headed.”

We start each week with a Monday morning meeting. I have a HUGE couch in my office that fits the whole team. They pile in and we talk about the goals for that day and week. Taking this time helps each member of the team prioritize all the moving parts.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when we all sit down and have lunch together! We wait for everyone to be at a stopping point – no matter how hungry we might be. We chat about our days, talk about our kids, or laugh about something we saw on social media. It’s our time to connect as a whole group.

Where’s Sarah?

A lot of what happens at the Warehouse happens without me. It’s my team who is moving products into and out of the warehouse and getting all those subscription boxes ready to send out to y’all.

So what am I doing while they’re taking care of all the things? Well, I’m busy delivering training to my coaching group, recording a new podcast episode, or designing new products to be manufactured.

After being a solo entrepreneur for so long, it feels like I can finally focus my attention on the big picture things that will help my business continue to grow. After all, I know my amazing team is taking care of all our wonderful customers.

And the truth is, my team kind of likes it when I’m not in the middle of everything anyway! 😁

This one’s for the moms.

One of the most important parts of moving from the retail location into the Warehouse was being home more. That meant creating an environment where moms could have a great job and still be home when their kids were. We leave at 3 PM every day except Thursdays. This allows us to take our kids to school, get our work done, and be the ones that pick them up when the bell rings.

Quotes from the team:

Amber says, ”At the new Warehouse, everyone has a landing place. It makes it feel like home. It’s fun seeing all the new products and making people smile with the boxes we pack. I also love that my job is flexible so that I can be a Mom, too!”

Being at the new space feels so good! We were so cramped in the old space for over a year. Now it feels like we can all breathe and I’m able to be as creative as I want to be in this new space.
